Apple UK: iOS 4.1 available starting September 8th

Apple UK iOS 4.1 September 8th
The technical staff behind Apple's UK site made a bit of a gaffe earlier today. For a brief period, the UK website was advertising iOS 4.1 as being available starting September 8th. This is the first and only site promoting a date; all other sites, including the US, have continued to pronounce the update as “coming soon”. Once this date started circulating on the Internet, Apple quickly updated its UK website and is now towing the company line with a “coming soon” availability for the recently announced iOS 4.1. Regardless of what it says now, this appearance and quick removal of September 8th suggests this date is spot on.
Though this September 8th date is far from being confirmed, it does fit in nicely with Apple’s release schedule. Various beta versions of iOS 4.1 have been in the hands of the developers and they have had ample time to prepare their apps for this latest release. This latest version of Apple’s mobile OS is also slated to officially debut next week when the fourth generation ipod touch starts to land in the hands of customers.
If you need even more circumstantial evidence, consider that the iPhone 4 is currently running iOS 4.0.2. Apple would not let the 4.1 iPod touch one-up its flagship smartphone. To keep the elite status of the iPhone 4, Apple will try to release its 4.1 update near the time UPS or Fedex delivers the first iPod touch 4G. Also note that September 8th is smack dab in the middle of the week and is the perfect time for a launch, especially if you consider the above factors. In theory, this all sounds peachy keen but you know how theories go. Sometimes even the best ones land straight in the garbage. So stay tuned next week to see if this plays out as I have predicted.
